Essential Maths: Developing Your Skills in the Teaching of Primary Mathematics
This event is being led by Viv Townsend.
This session will focus on teaching number so that learners develop their conceptual understanding and become mathematically fluent. It will help teachers new to the profession to enhance their practice to take these two aims of the new national curriculum into account. The afternoon will focus on aspects of number including counting, place value and calculation.
We will consider how concrete experiences, pictures, symbols and language all contribute to learning and will focus on both the raised expectations of the curriculum and some common misconceptions. Teachers will work with ideas from their own phase and also consider how learning of mathematics builds across the primary years.
Attendees will leave inspired to refine their own practice, will have some ideas to try in their classrooms straight away and will be aware of some free resources to support their teaching of the National Curriculum.
This event is free to those schools who subscribe to the Gateway Alliance – core offer for NEW & RECENTLY TEACHER’s.
There is one place available per subscription. Additional places may be booked at a cost of £65 per person. Non-subscribing schools may attend, subject to availability, at a cost of £100 per person. Invoices to be paid prior to the event.
