From Dependence to Independence led by Kate Browning
This session will support teaching assistants to improve the nature and quality of their ‘talk’ to pupils in order to support the development of independent thinking and learning skills, which are associated with improved learning outcomes. It will also focus on the effective use of resources to aid independence in learning and working in effective partnership with class teachers.
This session will help teaching assistants to promote pupil’s independence in learning, particularly for lower attaining pupils and those with SEN through:

Kate Browning has 20 years’ experience working as a class teacher, SENCo, senior leader, Advisory Teacher for SEN and School Improvement Officer with SEN specialism for Leicestershire Local Authority .
She is now working for NASEN (National Association for Special Educational Needs) as an Education Development Officer and also independently as a school improvement consultant for special educational needs. Over this time she has built up a successful and extensive track record of working with senior leaders, SENCos, governors, teaching and support staff to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEN.
Kate also teaches the National Award for SEN Coordination for new SENCos in affiliation with the University of Northampton and facilitates SENCo Network meetings for both Warwickshire and Leicestershire.
This event is free to those schools who subscribe to the Gateway Alliance – core offer CPD programme for TEACHING ASSISTANTS.
There is one place available per subscription. Additional places may be booked at a cost of £50 per person. Non-subscribing schools may attend, subject to availability, at a cost of £65 per person. Invoices to be paid prior to the event.
