Have you recently started work in your early years setting?  Would you benefit from time to focus on the detail of the curriculum and to learn more about effective and inspiring ways to put principles into practice?

This one day course looks at what constitutes effective teaching and learning for children aged 3-5.  You will develop your understanding of the key principles which underpin the early years foundation stage curriculum and learn more about effective strategies for delivery.

You will gain an overview of critical aspects of child development which impact on how children learn most effectively and consider how to facilitate and build upon these in your classroom.

Alongside prime and specific areas, you will consider the characteristics of learning and the four themes of the curriculum in more detail.  There will be a focus on improving outcomes by maximising the impact of adult-child interactions, developing an effective learning environment and building on children’s natural dispositions.

By the end of the day you will:

  • Be familiar with the statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage curriculum.
  • Understand key aspects of early development and the impact of these on teaching and learning.
  • Know how to inspire learning by putting curriculum principles into practice.
  • Have practical ideas for developing your provision.

This session is specifically for teachers who are new or less experienced in supporting children in the early years.
