Essential Maths: Developing Your Skills in the Teaching of Primary Mathematics
This event is being led by Viv Townsend.
DATE: Tuesday 29th January 2019
This session covers a range of current issues for the teacher of primary mathematics. The course includes a brief introduction to bar modelling and an approach to tackling word problems which emphasises understanding and representation. Sticking with the theme of understanding, and in response to the 2020 national Y4 multiplication check, the course addresses strategies for ensuring conceptual understanding and fluency with multiplication facts.
Finally the afternoon looks at aspects of mastery, especially the idea of keeping the class together, and attendees will have the chance to evaluate ways of adapting existing problems so that all pupils can be engaged on the same mathematical activity. Attendees will leave with plenty of strategies that they can try out in their primary classrooms along with information on how to access high quality freely available resources to support planning. There will be plenty of opportunity for asking questions and for NQTs and RQTs to share ideas on the day.
This event is free to those schools who subscribe to the Gateway Alliance – core offer for NEW & RECENTLY TEACHER’s.
There is one place available per subscription. Additional places may be booked at a cost of £70 per person. Non-subscribing schools may attend, subject to availability, at a cost of £110 per person. Invoices to be paid prior to the event.
