Barking at Print or Reading with Understanding? led by Jennifer Cotton

This session will consider the knowledge and skills involved with reading comprehension. It will offer suggestions to tease out the gaps within individual pupil’s performance and offer practical advice to develop these areas.
Attendees are requested to bring with them some children’s reading books which they usually use within the classroom.
Jennifer Cotton has been specialising in teaching pupils with special educational needs (SEN) for over 20 years. She has a Masters level qualification in SEN and she also has additional specialist qualifications in assessing and teaching learners with dyslexia. Jennifer has been working for Leicestershire Learning Support Service for 15 years. In her role, she runs training events for teachers and teaching assistants on a range of topics including dyslexia, reading and writing. She also carries out assessments of pupils and suggests next steps for learning. She is always seeking to develop her own practice by teaching pupils herself.
This event is free to those schools who subscribe to the Gateway Alliance – core offer CPD programme for TEACHING ASSISTANTS.
There is one place available per subscription. Additional places may be booked at a cost of £50 per person. Non-subscribing schools may attend, subject to availability, at a cost of £65 per person. Invoices to be paid prior to the event.
