Margaret’s insights will offer inspiration and practical strategies for improving attendance outcomes and changing the culture around attendance.

Michelle O’Dell has over 28 years experience working in education, starting her career as a teaching assistant for pupils with SEND in a secondary school. After completing her PGCE she taught in a variety of primary settings before becoming a primary head teacher. A journey which gave her the exciting opportunity to experience the joys and challenges in diverse settings, including small, rural, church and large, inner-city multi-cultural schools.
Laterly, Michelle was the Trust Strategic Attendance Manager for the John Taylor Multi-Academy Trust (JTMAT) and Attendance Advisor for the DfE. In her role at JTMAT, Michelle held responsibility for attendance in 19 schools (6 secondary, 2 infant and 9 primary).
As a DfE Attendance Advisor Michelle supported schools and Trusts across the country.
Michelle now works as a freelance Educational Consultant for ‘All Things Attendance’. and as an Associate Consultant for ‘Inclusive Attendance’.
Excellent school attendance, the whole child and whole school approach has always been Michelle’s passion and she firmly believe that it is the cornerstone to everything we do in schools.
