Curriculum CPD – Art
Creativity at the Core: Empowering Young Artists Through Drawing and Sketchbooks
Led by Emma Bairstow
Overview
This session will focus on the power of creativity in the classroom and supporting the development of the ‘whole child’ through art. We’ll celebrate the artistic process while exploring how to balance creativity with skill-building and outcome development over time. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of artist exploration and how to visually document this in sketchbooks. Through practical drawing activities delegates will build their own artistic confidence, helping shift the common “I can’t draw” mindset and exploring how this can positively impact teaching and learning. The session will also offer time to discuss effective learning sequences and explore meaningful ways to record progression and assess, with the child at the centre of the process. By the end of the session, participants will feel more empowered to bring creativity into the classroom in ways that nurture both artistic growth band personal development.
