Curriculum CPD – PSHE
Equality in Action: Embedding the Protected Characteristics in Primary PSHE
Led by Sarah Huggins
Overview
This course will be run over 2 online sessions, delegates should attend both sessions.
Session 1: Equality in Action: Embedding the Protected Characteristics in Primary PSHE
The session will begin with the latest development in PSHE education including statutory content. The focus will be on ensuring you meet current requirements whilst also meeting the needs of the children in your school. The main theme will be teaching the protected characteristics of the Equality Act within the primary curriculum, with a particular focus on PSHE education. We will begin by considering the legal requirements and how these should be addressed across school. We will then consider in more detail how the Equality Act impacts on our teaching in PSHE education. This will include ensuring lessons are inclusive and meet the needs of all children. We’ll explore how PSHE can be used to promote positive, respectful relationships. Each protected characteristic will be examined in turn, with guidance on how to introduce them in an age-appropriate manner. You’ll also discover useful resources, practical strategies, and have the chance to share effective practice with fellow participants.
Session 2: TBC
The second session will explore a different aspect of PSHE provision and will be agreed based on a needs assessment and feedback from session 1.
