Curriculum CPD – PSHE

This course will be run over 2 online sessions, delegates should attend both sessions.

SESSION 1: Delivering Inclusive PSHE Education: Contributing to All Learners’ Mental Health and Well-being

This online course delivered by Coram Life Education & SCARF will provide delegates with a greater understanding of Ofsted expectations in relation to the teaching of the protected characteristics as well as provide a valuable opportunity to share and learn from teaching colleagues in regard to the assessment and evidencing PSHE.

This course will:

  • Explore how Ofsted inspects the teaching of the protected characteristics when making their Personal Development judgement
  • Identify the RSHE statutory requirements that enable schools to deliver LGBT+ content at a timely point
  • Provide opportunities to share practical tools and strategies for capturing pupil progress and evidence in relation to RSHE.

This training includes access to an online self-evaluation template (Ofsted tool on SCARF) which will provide practical steps to meeting Ofsted’s expectations for Personal Development (including SMSC) and our PSHE Whole-school Approach toolkit.

This training session will cover:

  • What evidence Ofsted is looking for as part of their inspection, that relates to the nine protected characteristics as defined by the UK government
  • How delivering an LGBT+-inclusive Relationships Education leads to improved health outcomes for all children
  • Understand why delivering a whole school approach to inclusive PSHE is crucial for creating a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Tried and tested tools used to assess PSHE in a way that isn’t time-consuming or onerous.

This training includes a practice development activity where attendees are invited to share and discuss assessment tools in the session and after, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn from each other and develop good practices.

Did you miss the first session or just need a reminder of what was covered? The session recording can be found once you login to your Gateway Alliance Member’s Area to access whenever it suits you.

SESSION 2: RSHE: everything you need to know about engaging parents in creating a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

This two- and half-hour online course delivered by Coram Life Education & SCARF will provide delegates with time and space to truly reflect on their school’s approach to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), with a focus on parent and pupil engagement to ensure each school meets the needs of its community.

The course will:

  • Provide opportunities to reflect on schools’ approaches to RSE and what has informed these approaches
  • Identify how to create a developmentally-appropriate curriculum, suited to the needs of your pupils
  • Share parents’/carers’ perceptions, prominent narratives and tensions regarding primary school RSE, and provide evidence-informed recommendations for enhanced parent/carer engagement

This training session will cover:

  1. Our own experiences of RSE and what we want for our pupils
  2. Capturing feedback from parents & carers on the RSE programme and policy
  3. Improving RSE conversations at home and signposting to resources
  4. Listening to the voice of pupils to ensure our RSE is fit for purpose
  5. The evidence base that underpins the implementation of primary Relationships and Sex Education
