Curriculum CPD – Improving Provision & Outcomes in Geography
Please note: Due to the current restrictions we are unable to bring this course to you as a full day, face to face event. It will instead be run over 2 sessions – an online twilight session in the spring followed by a 1/2 day face to face session in the summer.
This course will concentrate on the key principles of building a curriculum in geography which enables pupils to make progress in the acquisition of subject skills and achieve progressively more challenging outcomes from EYFS to Year 6. The sessions will be practical and interactive with an emphasis throughout on reflective professional practice.
SESSION 1: Webinar – Improving provision in Geography EYFS-Year 6
Thursday 25th February OR Monday 8th March 2021 (NEW TIME – 15:30-17:30)
This session will provide an overview of the key principles of designing and teaching a rigorous and inclusive curriculum in Geography (EYFS-Year 6) and include a consideration of the implications of sequencing and ensuring continuity and progression in knowledge and understanding and the mastery and application of key skills.
SESSION 2: Assessing outcomes in Geography
DATE/TIME TBC
This training will focus on approaches to judging the impact of provision in Geography in terms of what pupils know, understand and can do. It will include a consideration of key aspects of assessment such as identifying age related expectations, knowledge retrieval, end points of learning and subject learning goals.
Due to current restrictions this course will be run over 2 sessions:
SESSION 1: ZOOM WEBINAR
DATE: Monday 8th March 2021
TIME: 15:30-17:30 – NEW TIME
VENUE: Online
We will be using Zoom (online video conferencing software) to host this online event. If you have not used Zoom previously, you may need to download the Zoom software either to a laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone, prior to joining. When you have booked your place a link will be emailed to you, within 48 hours of the webinar, with further instructions about how to join the event.
SESSION 2: TBC (Summer 2021)
We plan to offer this part of the course as a face to face, half day session later in the summer term. Full details to be published in due course.
