Overview

This course will explore how mainstream schools can positively respond to the increasing complexity of need.

  • What are the different types of provision and purposes?
  • What are the benefits and the risks?
  • The important areas to consider when developing a SEND provision including: Purpose, Leadership, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Collaboration with specialist teams, Roles and Responsibilities and establishing a Quality Assurance Framework.

This day will also provide an opportunity to hear from local SENCOs who have developed a SEND provision in a mainstream school and hear about the benefits and the challenges.

Kate Browning

Kate is our SENCo Network Leader and she is a well-regarded lead professional both locally and nationally in school improvement for children and young people with SEND. She has over 20 years of experience as a teacher, SENCo, Local Authority School Improvement Officer for SEN and interim Education Development Officer for NASEN, where she supported the delivery of nationwide training on the SEND Code of Practice with the DfE.
