Our Maths Subject Leader Development Meetings provide an opportunity for leaders to come together to hear the latest news and updates in the world of Primary Mathematics; enhance their leadership skills; explore aspects of pedagogy and network with colleagues to share and develop their practice.
The network meetings will be led by our Maths Network Leader Viv Townsend.
Summer Term Maths Network Meeting 1 – Thursday 20th May 2021 (16:00-17:30):
We hope you’ll join us for the first of two summer term network meetings. In this shorter meeting, we’ll start with some news and updates, and there will of course be a chance t network with fellow subject leaders to discuss how things are in school following the second lockdown.
The main part of the meeting will be focused on variation theory/intelligent practice. This will build on the second of Craig Barton’s sessions in the spring term. Don’t worry of you missed his input as we’ll begin by recapping what we mean by these terms and then have a go at creating some questions for different year groups following the principles he shared.
Built into the session will be time to reflect on why and how subject leaders might work with colleagues to develop this across the school. We hope that you’ll bring along some examples to talk about to the next meeting.
Summer Term Maths Network Meeting 2 – Tuesday 29th June (13:00-15:30):
In this final meeting of the year, we’ll both look back and ahead to plan for 2021/22. Underpinning the two session foci we’ll be asking:
The first focus will be looking back at the input from Craig Barton on Focussing thinking (which included a great deal on cognitive load and ideas relating to how we present material). There will be opportunities to reflect on how this input supported online teaching and learning. We’ll also look ahead to consider how these principles might support face-to-face teaching and learning.
And the second focus, is on your school vision is for maths. We will do some work on getting ready for an Ofsted Deep Dive with opportunity to discuss with other SLs. Building on the previous session, we’ll consider how you share your vision with colleagues and ensure a consistency to how maths is taught.
Schools who subscribe to the Gateway Alliance WALSALL MATHS subject leader network have 1 FREE place per subscription.
Costs will be incurred for additional places and for schools that do not subscribe. Please see our terms for details.
