SENCo Network Meeting

Led by Kate Browning

Overview

National Updates:

Kate will update the group on the latest national developments in SEND from the DfE, Ofsted, research, guidance reports and useful blogs and articles. This will include a National Updates summary newsletter including links to all relevant websites and newsletters; ideal for taking back to SLT and your school’s SEND Governor.

Session 1: This term’s Take-Away will be focused on ‘Whole class approaches to supporting emotional regulation’. These Take-Away sessions are deigned for SENCos to take back to school and deliver to class teachers and Teaching Assistants; you will be provided with a ready- prepared presentation and materials to use as and when you need.

Session 2: The challenges around using our Best Endeavours to support children with ‘complex needs’, often at very early stages of development continue. This will be a structured workshop session where each SENCo will be invited to talk about a ‘complex needs’ child in their school, sharing:

  • what’s working well
  • the challenges that remain
  • approaches to assessment and tracking progress,
  • approaches to provision and support
  • approaches to supporting transition.

This structured workshop session will then provide an opportunity to share good practice and support each other with possible solutions to challenging areas of practice, with a particular eye of preparation for next academic year.

SENCOs are invited to select a child and prepare brief notes on the above 4 areas in advance to enable smooth running of the workshop sessions

The session will end with Kate providing SENCos with an end of year SENCO round-up aide memoire.

We will be running our local network meetings in a range of locations across the year and there will also be an online option.
