Curriculum: What Actually Matters to Us and Why? led by Sonia Thompson

During this webinar Sonia will share:

  • How the curriculum at St Matthew’s has been deliberately constructed to become a driver of school improvement.
  • The key research that underpins its content and intent, including the work on funds of knowledge by Luis Moll 
  • Practical guidance on how to apply the research, in a way that reflects the individual context of a school community.


COST: £55 per webinar OR £200 for 1 place at each of the 5 live events in Thinking Forward series.


DATE: Monday 14th June 2021

TIME: 10:00-11:00am

We will be using Zoom (online video conferencing software) to host this online event. If you have not used Zoom previously, you may need to download the Zoom software either to a laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone, prior to joining. When you have booked your place a link will be emailed to you, within 48 hours of the webinar, with further instructions about how to join the event.

The session will also be recorded and afterwards an edited version will be shared with those schools that have booked a place.

Sonia Thompson

Sonia is Director of the Research School and also Headteacher at St Matthew’s CE Teaching School. She is co-lead for English and also the History and Assessment Lead. She is an SLE for English and School Improvement and an accredited Talk for Writing Training Centre Lead. She is a member of the steering group for the National Tutoring Programme and an Advisory Board Member for OU/UKLA Reading for Pleasure website. She was a judge of the UKLA book awards 2020 and the Empathy Lab Books 2020. She is a frequent speaker at conferences on Literacy, Curriculum and Reading for Pleasure.
