Our English network provides a great opportunity for subject leaders to come together to develop their practice and network with colleagues. Our termly network meetings and CPD events explore new and innovative practice as well as sharing the latest news and updates from key primary English educational organisations locally and nationally.
We meet termly in a range of locations or online and always start with story time and a book wave. Ruth loves to share new and different, high-quality children’s books with the network and colleagues also have the opportunity to share books that they would recommend. We look at the latest national updates from the DfE, Ofsted, various English associations and the English Hubs. This provides an opportunity for colleagues to get up to speed with any recent research and guidance reports and discuss these together as a group. We will then take one or two areas of focus for the rest of the meeting which centre around specific areas of English pedagogy and the strategic role of the English Leader in school.
There are always lots of ‘take-aways’ for leaders to take back and share with staff in school and time to network and share common areas of challenge and good practice. The focus of our termly meetings are driven by the current needs of the group which are informed by our English Network steering group and evaluations from previous sessions.
Once a year we have our English Conference which brings together our whole network for an inspiring day exploring new and innovative practice. The focus for our conference is driven by the needs of the network and provides an opportunity to hear from a number of exciting guest speakers. For details of previous speakers see below.
Keeping in touch between meetings is also supported through our private English Network online forum (managed through Facebook). Network members receive access to this group and can use it to post questions and share information throughout the year.
All network meeting resources, recordings and useful links are made available to network members and their schools, via our online resource hub housed on our website. All network members receive personal access to this area to ensure that they can access resources quickly and easily throughout the year.
